Prerequisites
There are 4 UbiCast plugins for Moodle, listed in the Moodle plugins directory. Before you start reading this article, you will need to download the ones you are interested in:
- Main plugin ‘Activity’: this Moodle activity module allows users to add media or channels from a UbiCast Nudgis site to their courses. They can also edit media directly from Moodle without having to visit the Nudgis site.
- 'Atto button' plugin: this plugin is used to insert media from UbiCast Nudgis into text boxes.
- Nudgis ‘Block’ plugin: a plugin for Moodle allowing Nudgis channels to be integrated into courses.
- 'Ad-hoc filter for the Nudgis Atto button' plugin : This filter allows students to add media from a Nudgis site in the Atto text editor.
Installing the ‘Activity’ plugin is a prerequisite for installing the other UbiCast plugins for Moodle
Installing the main plugin ‘Activity’
First, you need to download the main plugin ‘Activity’. You then need to install it on your Moodle instance, by following ‘Administration -> Plugins -> Install plugins -> Install plugin from ZIP file’:
This integration mode does not allow LTI score feedback. If score feedback is essential, we advise you to use the generic LTI integration
Once the main plugin has been installed, you need to configure it to activate the connection between your Moodle and Nudgis.
Integrating Nudgis LTI identifiers
Once the main ‘Activity’ connector has been installed, you will need to configure the LTI parameters. As the Nudgis ‘Activity’ plugin has been developed to work with LTI 1.0/1.1, you will need to retrieve the corresponding identifiers in Nudgis. To do this, go to Nudgis as administrator, and enter Administration->Authentication settings and services->LTI tab, then retrieve the key and secret :
Once you have retrieved your LTI identifiers, add them to the Ubicast Nudgis connector settings by following ‘Site administration -> Plugins -> Activity modules -> UbiCast Nudgis connector -> Settings’, or copy the following link into your browser, taking care to replace <instance-moodle> with the name of your Moodle instance: https: //<instance-moodle>/admin/settings.php?section=modsettingubicast
The main plugin is now activated, and you can now add Nudgis resources to your Moodle :
Installing the ‘Atto button' plugin
First of all, you need to download the ‘Atto button' plugin from the Moodle plugins directory, then install it as described in the chapter ‘Installing the “Activity” plugin’, i.e. by following ‘Administration -> Plugins -> Install plugins -> Install plugin from ZIP file’.
Then, to check the plugin configuration, go to ‘Site administration > Plugins > Text editors > Atto HTML editor > Atto toolbar settings’. You should find the following configuration in the middle of the page:
If the configuration is correct, you will be able to add Nudgis content using the Atto text editor.
Installing the ‘Block’ plugin
Here again, if you have not already done so, you need to download the ‘Block’ plugin from the Moodle plugins directory, then install it as described in the chapter ‘Installing the “Activity” plugin’, i.e. by following ‘Administration -> Plugins -> Install plugins -> Install plugin from ZIP file’.
To use the plugin, click on ‘Add a block’ in the Moodle sidebar, and select ‘Nudgis videos’ from the list:
Once the block has been created, you can configure it by clicking on the corresponding cogwheel icon :
Finally, you need to retrieve the ID of the Nudgis channel you want to include in the block. You will find it in the Channel settings in Nudgis, in Edit mode:
The ID of a channel is always in the format c123456ab7cdefghij8k (this is an example). A channel's ID always begins with 'c'
Once you have retrieved the channel ID, insert it in the ‘Nudgis channel ID’ field:
Your block is ready to be used with the selected channel!
Installing the ‘Ad-hoc filter for the Atto button Nudgis plugin’ plugin
Again, if you have not already done so, you need to download the “Ad-hoc Filter ‘ plugin from the Moodle plugins directory, then install it as described above in the chapter ’2/ Installing the main plugin ‘Activity’, by following “Administration -> Plugins -> Install plugins -> Install plugin from ZIP file”.
To use the plugin, please go to “Administration -> Plugins -> Filters -> Ad-hoc filter for UbiCast Atto plugin”. Here you can activate the “ Create playlists” functionality, which requires you to fill in the “API URL” field with the URL of the Nudgis service API (for example: https://your-nudgis.portal/api/v2/ ) :
Then enter the “API Key”, which is used to obtain information on the user's Nudgis service media. This is required to display playlists, and can be found on your Nudgis portal by following “Administration -> Users and groups management -> Users management -> Click on the ‘’ icon to edit the settings of the user involved. A new window opens and you can view the API key by clicking on 'Edit value':
The account linked to the API key must have permission to access all media in the Nudgis service. Never save settings when consulting the API key to make sure to not accidentally change it
Finally, go to “Site administration -> Plugins -> Text editors -> Insert a media from Nudgis” :
You can then check the 'Use filter' box, which allows students and teachers to add media.
This plugin offers 3 new features for your Nudgis media integration:
- Creation of Nudgis playlists: lets the user insert Nudgis videos one below the other with ATTO by doing so it automatically creates a playlist view. It is available if you have previously checked the “Create playlists” box in Administration -> Plugins -> Filters -> Ad-hoc filter for the UbiCast Atto plugin
- Course duplicates : allows teachers to duplicate their courses from one school year to another
-
Hand in an assignment: enables the integration of an iframe, allowing students to record a video to hand in an assignment (if the teacher tick the “Add online text” option in the Submission types field of the assignment. For more details on assignment, we invite you to watch this video tutorial:
We have come to the end of this article, which we hope you have found useful. We encourage you to discover the use of these plugins, which will undoubtedly contribute to the fluidity and enrichment of your Moodle courses!
