In this article, we will look at the different ways you can upload content to your favorite online education video platform ! Simple, intuitive and versatile, the "Add content" function lets you easily upload any type of media, with fine-grained control over the details of the upload and the target.
TABLE OF CONTENT
GENERAL INFORMATION
The "Add content" button appears on every page of your Nudgis instance, and can be accessed from the top right corner of the site. Clicking on it opens a drop-down menu offering three choices :
- "Record" gives you access to the UbiCast WebStudio, an online application that lets you record content and upload it to your personal channel, or the site's default channel if you don't have a personal channel (this setting is defined by the administration team). This online recorder is a feature in its own right, the details of which are covered in The WebStudio article, which is directly relevant to our subject and which we invite you to discover immediately after reading this. This method remains the simplest and most intuitive way of recording and uploading content into Nudgis.
- "Upload" opens a page allowing you to add media accessible on your workstation, and apply the import settings you want.
- "Advanced" gives access to all the content upload options, listed by type.
You will also find information about the available and used storage capacity allocated to your account. This information is represented by a progress bar, which is also visible under the "Add content" button. Your storage space usage corresponds to the size used by all the media for which you are in the list of Speakers and all the media in your personal channel.
If no storage quota has been applied to your account by the site administration team, this information and the progress bar will not be displayed
THE "UPLOAD" FEATURE
As described above, we won't be discussing WebStudio any further in these lines, but will concentrate on the other possibilities offered by "Add content", and first of all the "Upload" function.
As we said, clicking on this option opens a page dedicated to adding media from an external resource.
Here you can enter the title of the media as it will appear on the portal, and select the target channel. By default, your personal channel will be selected, if you have one. If not, the site's default channel, defined by the administration team, will be pre-filled. If you choose to change your deposit destination, simply click on "Select a channel" to open a new page on the site showing you the channels to which your account has access. Once again, these accesses are defined by the administration team.
If you are an administrator, we invite you to familiarise yourself with rights management by consulting the "Managing permissions" article of our Help Center section
Further down this window, four options can be selected or deselected :
- "Set my account as a speaker", which allows you to associate your user account with ownership of the video, granting it the rights reserved for Speakers, generally editing and administration rights. These rights can, however, be configured by the administration team to give more or less scope to the site's Speaker category.
- "Transcode file", which allows you to create resources of different qualities authorised by the site's transcoding settings, again defined by the administration team.
- "Slides detection" launches a task to extract Jpeg images from your computer stream. These slides can be found and consulted by the viewer in the player, and can also be used as navigation points in the video. Find out more about this feature in the article "The Nudgis Dynamic Rich Media player".
- "Autocam Analysis", which launches the algorithm designed by UbiCast to produce a dynamic framing of your filmed subject : for example, a teacher moving within a wide shot in a classroom can, thanks to Autocam, be automatically displayed in a tighter frame that will follow the subject as long as it remains within the limits of the wide shot.
All these operations are applicable after the deposit
Finally, once you have set your preferences, click on "Add media". You will be redirected directly to the video being created in Nudgis. Note that the progress of the selected tasks will be displayed on the main screen.
Clicking on the information button will bring up a window containing progress information on the selected tasks, and the option of suspending or deleting them.
Once you have completed these tasks, your video is ready to be edited and published !
THE "ADVANCED" FEATURE
This function links to all the Nudgis content upload options. There are four possible choices.
- "Send a file" opens the same window as "Upload", the operation of which was described in the previous chapter.
- "Add a video" allows you to make several types of deposit, which we will explain in more detail below.
- "Add a live stream" allows you to add a live broadcast page in three different forms, again detailed below
- "Add a channel" allows you to create a new channel or sub-channel, as we will see at the end of this article.
It is possible that some of these choices do not appear for your account, which means that the site administration team has not granted it the rights to do so
Let's take a look at the "Add a video" option. When you select it, a new page opens, offering five possibilities.
- "Record a video" opens the WebStudio, which is the subject of a dedicated article that we invite you to consult.
- "Use a Youtube video" lets you add a video from a resource hosted by Youtube, via its URL.
- "Use an embed code" follows the same principle, but uses an embed code supplied by the site hosting the video.
- "Use an external resource" authorises you to upload content hosted on another site via its URL.
- "Add without resource" allows you to create media with no content other than the title and speaker.
Once you have selected your option, you will be redirected to the classic add page (as seen in "The "Upload" feature" chapter), where you can enter the title, select the destination channel, define the language of the video, and enable or disable your Speaker ownership on the media. If you are adding an external resource, you can also activate the transcoding, slide extraction and Autocam tracking tasks. The only thing that changes is the add resource field. In the following screenshot, the "Add by external resource" function has been chosen. Note that the add file field has become an add resource URL field :
Once you have chosen the type of resource and made the settings, click on "Add media". You will be redirected to the new video, in exactly the same way as in the "Upload" chapter.
"Add a live" opens a page similar to "Add a video", except that the three choices available still include adding by embed code or by external resource in the form of a URL, as seen previously, but in the context of a live broadcast. The third choice also allows you to create a live stream, but calibrated for one of the recorders in your fleet, whether from our Miris Capture range or another model. However, Miris recorders offer more settings and options for your live broadcast when combined with Nudgis. To find out more about the Miris Capture range, take a look at our dedicated section. Once you have chosen your feature and its settings, click on "Add live stream".
You are then redirected to the event page, which is created with a URL, links, integration codes and specific identifiers, and you can of course edit it and give it the permissions and visibility of your choice.
Finally, the "Add a channel" option works like the others, except that it allows you to create a new channel at the root of the site, or a sub-channel belonging to a parent channel to which you have access. Note that for this option to appear on the screen, the administration team must have authorised your account to create channels. If you select this feature, you will be redirected to a page similar to adding content, but dedicated to creating a channel. There, you can give it a title, link it to a parent channel, and define a token that will be included in the channel's URL (a token will be created automatically if you leave the field empty). You can also describe the purpose and content of the channel, define the default sorting type for the media displayed in it, and link it to a Category if the option is available for your account. This is the main metadata associated with the channel, which you can redefine later.
Be careful, though, as if you change certain metadata, such as the title of the channel, this may have an impact on its links and URL.
Finally, if your account allows it, you can use the "Advanced settings" to define the creation date of the channel, and to add a reference and external data if you are using specific plugins.
If you are an administrator, you can also apply a quota to the channel from this page. This quota is also applicable after creation
This brings us to the end of this article, which we hope has taught you everything you need to know about adding content and media to Nudgis. But, as we all know, there's no substitute for practice, so we invite you to experiment with the different possibilities we've just outlined, and to see by yourself how fluid and intuitive our solution is to use. We hope you'll enjoy it, and that Nudgis will become your reference tool for broadcasting and recording high-quality multimedia content.
Do not hesitate to consult the articles in our Help Center to learn more. We hope you enjoy your Nudgis experience !
