Welcome to this article, which will tell you everything you need to know about installing your Miris physical recorder!
Miris stations are preconfigured and ready to use. However, it may happen that it is no longer set up, in which case you will be taken to the initial configuration page. This may appear if you apply a factory reset to your recorder.
You will then need to reconfigure some settings to get the station up and running again.
We will take you step by step through the various stages of the initial configuration.

Ubicast account configuration
First, you need to connect your machine to your network.
The station is configured by default to retrieve an IP address dynamically from a DHCP server. Its role is to automatically configure the IP parameters of a device, in particular by automatically assigning it an IP address and a subnet mask. So, if you have declared the MAC address on your DHCP server, you will be able to find the machine's IP to connect to it. Please note that the default station name is "ubi-box-mac_address", for example "ubi-box-001122334455" if your MAC is 00:11:22:33:44:55. Otherwise, you'll need to use a computer to connect directly to your recorder via the dedicated network interface for the camera, which is set to 192.168.12.10/24 by default. If you're using a Miris box Mini, there's a single network interface with an IP alias. This allows several IP addresses to be associated on the same network interface in our case (DHCP for the LAN interface and 192.168.12.10/24 for the CAM interface). On the Miris Box Plus, you'll need to use the network bridge, for example one of the Ethernet ports with the POE label, dedicated to the camera.
On a computer on the same network (e.g. IP address 192.168.12.11/24), go to http://192.168.12.10 using your browser. You will need to enter a password, which by default is "admin".
This will take you to the initial configuration page, where you can set the parameters required for the station to work properly, after validating the connection with the button "Login".
The first configuration step is to define the administrator password for the ubicast account. This is dedicated to the administration of the station. In addition to the "Recording" and "Publish" sections, it will give you access to the station's "Settings" section, which we will be explained in a dedicated articles, and the "About" tab, where you can carry out updates and find about Miris API documentation. This password must not be used by users, but only by Miris administrators or AV integrator. To validate your changes, please click on the "Change" button.
Network setup
The second step is to configure the network. As we have already discussed, the station is set up by default with DHCP. If this suits you, you can skip this step. If not, you can define a specific network configuration by manually entering the network information such as (static IP, routes, DNS, etc...). To access the networking settings, please enter the password defined previously and check the "Reuse my password for privileged tasks" box, otherwise your settings will not be applied. Finally, click on the "Login" button.
We recommend you to read our Miris Network Configuration article to understand how to modify your network settings. When you have finished the operation, please click on the "Next" button to go on to the next step.
Miris Manager setup
The third step is to configure the Miris Manager. This will enable you to link your station to a Miris Manager server for remote control and administration of the box. Please enter the server's address in the appropriate field :
If the system is already connected to a Miris Manager (e.g. a reconfiguration after a factory reset), go to the advanced options to enter the API key and the secret for the connection to Miris Manager :
If you need to use a proxy server, you can add it to be used for exchanges with your Miris Manager platform. If you don't have a valid certificate on your Miris Manager, you'll need to disable the "Verify server SSL certificate" option. Otherwise, the station will not be usable on your Miris Manager. However, we advise you to have a valid certificate for the solution to work properly.
Information concerning the Miris Manager API can be found in the station parameters at the bottom of the page on your Miris Manager. To access this page, please click on the "Settings" button (top right) when you are on the station control page on your Miris Manager. This takes you to the system settings page, where you will find a section entitled "API information":
Alternatively, you can activate discovery mode, which allows systems to register automatically. In this way, it will not be necessary to enter an API key and secret for the station. To do so on your Miris Manager, as administrator, go to your "Fleet", then the "Discovery" tab. Enter a date in the future until which you wish to activate discovery mode and click on "Save".
Finally, if you don't have a local Miris Manager, you can use the UbiCast Miris Manager : https://mirismanager.ubicast.eu. However, you will need to have an account on our Miris Manager infrastructure, which will give you access to the API key and the secret for the connection to the Miris Manager, as we discussed earlier.
Once you have completed the configuration and clicked the "Save" button, you should now see the station online in the "Fleet" tab of your Miris Manager.
To learn more about Miris Manager, we recommend that you read our Miris Manager articles.
Nudgis setup
The fourth step is to configure your Nudgis server so that you can publish your recordings and broadcast your lives. If you don't have a Nudgis server, you can skip this step. Otherwise, please enter the Nudgis address for the URL field you wish to connect to the recorder.
In the "API key" text field, enter the recorder's API key that you can retrieve from your Nudgis server for the recorder using the "Edit" button (via Nudgis > Administration > User and group management)
You will arrive to the recorder settings page where you can get the API key :
If the recorder is not listed in the list of users, it will have to be created by clicking on the Add a user for a recorder button with the name of the station of the type "ubi-box-mac_address".
And you will be able to get the recording station API key which has been just created
By default, the option "Allow transcoding after upload" is enabled because if disabled it will avoid waiting for transcoding on Nudgis (useful for simulation applications where instant review is required) but note that the streamed media will be only the original file, hence very large. In other words, you will lose the ability to adapt video quality to the user's bandwidth. Finally, you will be able to define the default export channel which is "Unsorted" channel on Nudgis if not defined.
In the advanced options, you will find the network parameters for the connection to the Nudgis server. If you need to use a proxy server, you can define it so that it is used for exchanges with your Nudgis platform.
We advise that you keep the default chunk size.
You can disable SSL verification if you have problems with your SSL certificate, but this is not recommended.
You can then click on "Save" and your Miris station can now communicate with your Nudgis platform.
Recording profile configuration
Finally, we will finish configuring the station with the fifth step, by creating a test recording profile. You will be asked to create a recording profile. Recording profiles are used to define which audio and video sources will be used, as well as other parameters such as the destination channel for automatic publishing, the activation of live broadcasting, etc. We recommend that you first use virtual sources to be able to carry out your first connection tests. Please select a video test source and audio test source,
Afterwards, you can then read our article about "Recording profiles", which explains in detail all the functions available.
Click on "Save and finish setup" at the bottom of the page. Then, you will be redirected to the home page.
Congratulation, you have finished initialising your station, and it's now ready to be used ! Not only that but you will be able to log in to start recording !
